A THOUGHT............ This is not about secularism!! We already know enough about extremist Islam raging all over the globe. This is about the false projection that we hindus are the same as the lunatic extremist Hindutvavadis!! Hinduism and Hindutva are NOT synonymous nor are they sympathetic...........!! It has somehow crept into the recent social discourse that Hindutva is Hinduism and vise versa........ They are NOT even counter Islamist. They are a parallel ideology as the Islamist. They are a supremacists ideology which is ready to subdue or eliminate even the dissenters within Hinduism.........same as the Islamist would do to subdue or eliminate dissenters within Islam!! That hindutva as it is enforced is as rabid and vitriolic as Islamist has to be understood!! Extremist Islam is the same as extremist Hinduism, irrespective of how many dead bodies have fallen in whose cause. We already know of the great muslim terror looming over hindus as the Hindutvavadis ke...

MARATHA MARAUDERS OF BENGAL..... BARGIS/BORGIS...... Part II Jadunath Sarkar, renowned historian never held any brief on behalf of Muslim rulers of Bengal, writes in his description of the Maratha invasions of Bengal 1741-1751... His description of the invasions make it clear that the "Bhagwava Dhvaj" Maratha Hindu Army of the Maratha ruler of Nagpur, Raghoji I Bhonsle cared the least for the honour and property of the Hindu gentry of Bengal. According to him the marauding Mar atha Bargirs committed wanton destruction and outrage. According to one eyewitness Gangaram, whose testimony has been reproduced by Sarkar, the Marathas snatched away gold and silver rejecting everything else. Of some people they cut off hands, some their ears and nose, others they killed outright. They dragged away beautiful women, mostly of upper caste status, and freed them only after having mass raped them. Another eye-witness, Baneshwar Vidhyalankar, the court pandit of the Maharaja o...

MARATHA MARAUDERS OF BENGAL..... BARGIS/BORGIS There is a very popular Bengali folk poem......... chhele ghumalo, pada judalo bargi elo deshe bulbulite dhan kheyechhe, khajna debo kise? dhaan furolo, paan furolo, khajnar upaye ki? ar kota din sabur koro roshoon bunechi! When the children fall asleep, silence sets in, the Bargis come to our lands Bulbulis (birds) have eaten the grains, how shall I pay the rent/tax? Grain has finished, paan has finished, where do i get the tax money from? wait a few more days, i have sown Lasoon(garlic)!! Etymology The Hatkar formerly when going on any expedition, took only a blanket seven hands long and a bear-spear (Barcha/Barchi in Marathi), and that on this account they were called Bargir, or Barga Dhangars or Bargi. Bargi is corruption of a Marathi word Bargir which meant Horsemen who were...

HISTORY OF SATI BAN IN INDIA.............. Historically, efforts to prevent Sati by formal means were extent even before the Moghul rulers came to power. Under the Delhi Sultanates (circa 1325) permission had to be sought prior to any Sati. In time this check against compulsion became a mere formality. In any case Hindu women from royal families continued to burn unchecked. Humayun tried, but withdrew a royal fiat against Sati. Akbar insisted that no woman could commit Sati without the specific permission of his Kotwals. They were instructed to delay the woman's decision for as long as possible. Pensions, gifts and rehabilitative help was offered to the potential Sati to wean her away from committing the Act. Children were strictly forbidden from the practice. The later Moghuls continued to put obstacles in the way but the practice carried on in the areas outside Agra. The Practice of Sati was first banned in Goa in 1515 by the Portuguese, but it was not that much prevalent ...

Eid-e-Gulabi: The unifying colour and spirit of Holi Who says Holi is a Hindu festival, asks Munshi Zakaullah in his book "Tarikh-e-Hindustani". Holi has a Islamic history as well. Revered Sufi saints like Hazrat Nizamuddin Aulia and Ameer Khusro have, in their chaste Persian and Hindvi poetry, adored the 'pink' festival generously. The last Moghul Emperor, Bahadur Shah Zafar, allowed his Hindu ministers to smear his forehead with gulal on Holi. He believed that his religion would not be affected by this social ritual. This enlightened spirit percolated among the Moghuls, right from the time of Emperor Akbar. Jahangir has been shown holding Mehfil-e-Holi in `Tuzk-e-Jahangiri'. Many artists, specially Govardhan and Rasik, have shown Jahangir playing Holi with Noorjahan, his wife. Mohammed Shah Rangila is shown running around the palace, his wife chasing him with a 'pichkari'. During Shahjahan's rule in Delhi, Holi was known as Id-e-Gulabi -- ...

TIME TO BAN "LOTUS STEM" ALSO CALLED "KAMAL KAKADI"......... Afterall LOTUS has come to be the symbol of Holy Hindutva isnt it? I wonder why Hindus are not yet upset by blatant consumption of Kamal Kakdi :) It is pertinent to note that the cows were not being slaughtered in Maharashtra anyways for all these years and the slaughter of cows had been stopped as far as back as the 1970s. Even the import of cow meat from markets like New Zealand were stopped a couple of years ago after the law which says that even imported cow meat can't be served in restaurants. The bill also mentions that the slaughter of water Buffalo's can continue hither to fore. Now if we go by another random reaction that i came across and I quote "The cow is sacred to the Hindu community and we have never killed cows in Bharatvarsha". But when the bullock is not sacred why pass a law to ban their slaughter? Now that is a tough one to counter and justify. However, it...

INTERSTING......... Yamīn-ud-Dawla Abul-Qāṣim Maḥmūd ibn Sebüktegīn also known as Mahmud of Ghazni. The man who sacked and looted Somnath temple . During his rule, he invaded and plundered parts of Hindustan (east of the Indus River) 17 times. Patron of the arts and poetry : Mahmud brought whole libraries from Rayy and Isfahan to Ghazni. He even demanded that the Khwarizmshah court send its men of learning to Ghazni. The notable poet Ferdowsi, after laboring 27 years, w ent to Ghazni and presented the Shahnameh to Mahmud. Having said all that........... Mahmud Gazni was a documented homosexual with a lover named Malik Ayaz. Many Mughal era artwork exist depicting their intimacy. Mahmud of Ghazni & his male lover Malik Ayaz are seen as epitome of selfless love in Sufi Islam literature. Strange as it may sound but Gazni called himself a Ghazi who waged jihad on the Hindus.......... He was himself a homosexual who is supposed to be punishable by death in Islam.
