The Sadqi Border Retreat Ceremony in Fazilka used to be a quite and solemn ceremony by both sides till very recently. Now it seems they have converted it into a monkey dance☹️😡
Wonder who is the approving authority for such clownery?



On the Indo-Pak side ceremony happens at three places
1. Wagah-Attari Amritsar sector
2. Sadqi Fazilka sector
3. Ganda Singh Wala-Hussainiwala in Ferozepur sector
(Sikh Risaldar Major Ganda Singh Dutt's village is in Pakistan while Muslim Pir Ghulam Hussain's village is in India)

SARDAR GANDA SINGH

Sardar Bahadur Risaldar Major Ganda Singh Datt (1830–1903) was a highly decorated soldier in the British Indian Army. He served in the 19th Bengal Lancers (Fane's Horse). 19th Bengal Lancers (Fane's Horse) was allotted to Pakistan in 1947 during partition of the British India Army. Today it is 19 Lancers Pakistan Army.

The regiment was raised at Gwalior during the upheaval of the Indian Mutiny in 1858, as the 2nd Regiment of Mahratta Horse.

1886: 18th Regiment of Bengal Lancers
1901: 18th Bengal Lancers
1906: 18th Prince of Wales's Own Tiwana Lancers
1910: 18th King George's Own Lancers
1919: 18th/19th Cavalry
1923: 19th King George's Own Lancers
1937: 19th King George V's Own Lancers

The new class composition of the regiment was one squadron each of Punjabi Muslims, Sikhs and Hindu Jats.

1947: 19th King George V's Own Lancers
1956: 19th Lancers (Pakistan Army)

On partition, the regiment exchanged its Jat squadron with the Central India Horse (CIH) for its Punjabi Mussalman squadron and gave its Sikh squadron to Skinner's Horse (1 H) in return for its Mussalman squadron.

During the famous "Black Hawk Down" incident in Mogadishu, Somalia, it played a key role in rescuing the American Rangers, who were trapped by Somali gunmen after the disastrous American operation on 3 and 4 October 1993. For some strange reason, the gallant action of 19 Lancers was not shown in the film "Black Hawk Down".

The omission of the 19th Lancers alongside Pakistani infantry and Malaysian armored forces, remains one of the most widely criticized narrative choices in the 2001 film "Black Hawk Down".
