JAUHAR: A RITUAL SUICIDE VERSION OF HONOUR KILLING

Problem is that jauhar was NOT a "choice that the woman made", it was a deeply embedded false sense of "honour" only for women of Rajput clans. Bizarrely, Rajput men rode into battle and Rajput women did jauhar, as if it was an understood fact that no man will return.

The view of jauhar as a purely autonomous, self-sacrificing choice ignores the immense patriarchal and cultural pressure within feudal Rajput society. Women operated within a strict honor economy (an-mardan, or clan pride), where their bodies were viewed as the ultimate physical repository of a lineage's purity.

RAJPUT WOMEN NEVER HAD A CHOICE OF NOT CHOOSING JAUHAR. IT WAS MANDATORY

Jauhar was not applicable to women from other castes. historical records confirm it was a distinctly upper-caste, feudal Rajput phenomenon rather than a universal practice across Indian society.

Jauhar was intimately tied to Rajput ruling elites (Kshatriya lineage), land ownership, and patriarchal clan lineage. Women of other castes living within or around those same forts—such as artisan groups, agricultural laborers, or service castes—did not typically participate in the formal ritual of jauhar.

When a fort fell, non-Rajput women were often exposed to capture, enslavement, or forced displacement, but the ideological imperative of mass self-immolation to protect "clan honor" was specifically a duty loaded onto "royal and noble" Rajput women.

While medieval chroniclers often romanticized it as ultimate devotion or martyrdom, it was fundamentally a tragic manifestation of feudal patriarchies, where a woman's life was strictly weighed against a clan's concept of lineage honor.

Today we keep hearing women being murdered all over North India and also Pakistan by their own fathers/brothers/uncles as part of honour killing. Stories from Punjab of partition is replete with narrations of how fathers killed all their daughters to protect honour. As if "honour" of the clan was the sole responsibility of the women while men go around fucking multiple women.

As someone said, "honour" of a clan is reduced to the vagina and that "humble" vagina hold the huge responsibility of bearing the burden of the honour of the whole clan while the dick goes around galivanting all over town.

Even more bizarre is the fact that that same vagina of the mother, sister etc is commonly used as a gaali in that same society!!
