JAMMU AND KASHMIR..... A PERSPECTIVE
If we go purely into techniclities...........
Pakistan did not attack Independent Indian territory in 1947. They attacked the princely state of Jammu and Kashmir of Maharaja Hari singh. Maharaja Hari Singh lost major part of his territories which his state forces were incapable of defending.
Major William Alexander Brown the British Commandant of Gilgit Scouts declared Gilgit as part of Pakistan and hoisted the Pakistan flag, arrested the J&K Maharajah appointed Governor Brig Ghansar Singh (1895-1991) and appointed himself as resident Rajah and seceded from J&K.
Major William Alexander Brown,MBE, British Scot Leader of Gilgit Rebellion was later awarded Sitara e Pakistan.
It was not until the Pakis were literally shoving their bayonets up the ass of Maharajah, he did not accede to India. Recorded history says clearly that his PM, a Kashmiri Pandit one Mr Tikoo had already signed a status Quo treaty with Jinnah. Infact there was already talk of acceding to Pakistan at some stage.
By the time Indian Army went into Srinagar, post signing of the instrument of Accesion on 27 Oct 1947, Maharjah Hari Singh's forces had already lost 1/3 of the territory of the princly state. It goes to the credit of Indian Army that we could salvage what we have today in our control by kicking Paki and Kabaili ass.
Had our M5 Stuart light tanks of 7 Cavalry not done the unthinkable accross Jozilla..... we would not have had Drass, Kargil or Ladakh including Siachen with us. Also no Aksai Chin or Shaksgam valley which as it is are not with us.
We wouldnt be having this discussion at all............. on Siachen or Aksai Chin or POK or Chinese occupied Kashmir. The map of Jammu and Kashmir would not have been part of India.
It doesnt matter what my grandfather gifted me in his will....... his bank account was already empty when i inherited it, irrespective of what was written in the will. That is what is the reality of "complete territory of the princely state of J&K"...........
Fact is.............. Irrespective of what we inherited from Maharjah Hari Singh via his instrument of accession, which was just a piece of paper to "legally" justify Indian military intervention in Jammu and Kashmir, he had already lost HIS OWN territory to Pakistan. We could retrieve some of it which otherwise was gone.
We did not lose Indian territory to Pakistan after the 1947-48 war in J&K. Infact we took additional territory beyond NJ9842 in 1984 from Pakistan.
