SIACHEN.............. the name Siachen refers to a land with an abundance of roses.
IN MY OWN WORDS ON MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE..........
The 1949 Karachi accord and 1972 Shimla accord proclaim that human habitation is not possible beyond point NJ 9842.

Technically it is true, since in 1983 onwards Pakistan was already
sending military and civilian including foreign mountaineering
expeditions north of NJ9842. Apparently exercising sovereignty over the
area where India was least bothered.
When suddenly some shenanigans on the Indian side woke up and decided on a military occupation instead of similar mountaineering expeditions conducted by Indian authorities.
GodDamn........... no human can definitely live north of NJ 9842. Faujis are not human you see. We veterans of the "Siachen" ironically translates to "valley of Roses" know it better than anybody else.
when we fly into Siachen, not only we helicopter pilots are struggling to breath Oxygen and also fly, our fingers and feet are numb. We fly out of instinct than feel. On the other hand....... the helicopter too flies on "will power" more than on engine or rotor power. The question in every minute of flying is whose will power wilts first ....me the pilot or the helicopter...... if none wilts we get back to base camp to take off once again.
The soldier in the Glacier is no better, he is there.......simply just there. His weapons mostly jam in the freezing cold........ he cant take off his gloves........ his hand will "bond" with the metal and never come off without leaving his flesh behind on the gun metal.
He goes for crap....... hanging by carabiner ropes and clamps. He can expose his ass for a crap only for "that much time" otherwise his ass will fall off because of frost bite.
We pilots and soldiers in the Glacier come back with major health issues including "oxygen deprivation induced loss of memory". It takes a couple of years to get over this partial amnesia some suffer permanent brain damage.
All this incase the soldier has survived hypoxia, frost bites, chilblains, or not died of Pulmonary edema or cerebral edema. For us pilots........ if we are not another "landmark" in the stark white glacier..... we use to navigate and also to orientate new pilots. This is so and so....... that was so and so........... oh that one..... that one is IAF cheetah........ etc etc.
Utterly nonsensical....... on both Paki and our sides. Only we "kaaloo Hindustanis and Pakistanis" are capable of such nonsense.
No wonder that ceasefire has held on in Siachen since 2003. Who damn hell wants to fight the enemy when the weather and the glacier are killing you as it is.
