"I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you."
Genesis 27:29 & Numbers 24:9 (Passed down to Jacob/Israel)
The specific phrasing "May those who bless you be blessed and those who curse you be cursed" is later spoken directly over Jacob by his father Isaac (Genesis 27:29).
Point to note is that God did not pass it to Jacob/Israel, it was Issac who said it for his own son. Jacob is Given the Name "Israel": In Genesis 32:28, after Jacob wrestles with a mysterious divine figure, God changes his name to Israel (which means "he struggles with God").
"Struggles" is definitely a softer, more sanitized translation that modern English Bibles prefer, but the raw Hebrew text is much more aggressive. In the actual context of Genesis 32:28, the figure Jacob wrestled with says it plainly:
"Your name will no longer be Jacob, but Israel, because you have fought (sarita) with God and with humans and have overcome."
The name Israel (Yisra'el - יִשְׂרָאֵל) comes from two roots:
Sarar (שָׂרָה): Which literally means to fight, contend, wrestle, or exert power/dominance.
El (אֵל): God.
This wasn't a quiet, internal, spiritual "struggle" with doubt. It was an all-night, physical, dust-kicking, hip-dislocating, graveyard-shift brawl. Jacob literally grabbed hold of a divine being and refused to let go until he extracted a blessing.
In the original biblical context, this promise is directly tied to Abraham and subsequently inherited by Jacob (the individual), not a modern geopolitical nation-state of Israel.
Desi Christians, specially Mallu Syrian Catholics lick the same bullshit that the American Judeo-Christians vomit in their support for the modern geopolitical nation-state of Israel.
