38 MILLION HUMANS HAVE DIED as a direct result of US Sanctions.
The study, conducted by researchers from the Center for Economic and Policy Research (CEPR)—including economists Francisco Rodríguez and Mark Weisbrot—is the first to attempt a large-scale, "causal" quantitative analysis of how sanctions affect mortality across the globe.
In the last decade of the study, sanctions were associated with roughly 560,000 deaths per year—a number the researchers noted is comparable to the global death toll of armed conflicts.
Children under the age of 5 accounted for 51% of these deaths. The impact was also heavily concentrated among the elderly (ages 60–80).
The study argues that sanctions kill not through direct violence, but through "structural" means:
Collapsing the value of local currency.
Reducing government revenue for healthcare and sanitation.
Restricting the import of essential medicines and food.

If you add the Vietnam era to the Post-9/11 era, the data suggests that U.S. military interventions have been a primary factor in the deaths of approximately 6 to 8 million people over the last 70 years.
