Manufactured for the United States Army Air Forces (USAAF) under serial 44-76488, but immediately transferred under the WWII Lend-Lease policy to the Royal Air Force (RAF) in March 1945 as Dakota IV KN397.

Decommissioned from military duty and registered on the UK civil registry in May 1952 as G-AMSV.



Flew for over half a century with numerous European civil operators, including Air Service Training, Transair, British United Island Airways (BUIA), British Island Airways, Skyways Air Cargo, and Air Atlantique.


Restored to flight standards by Air Atlantique/Classic Air Force at Coventry, painted in IAF historical markings, and assigned the commemorative tail number VP905. The original tail number VP905 belonged to one of the C-47 Dakotas operating under No. 12 Squadron of the Royal Indian Air Force (RIAF).

Interestingly, this particular airframe was never a historical IAF aircraft in IAF service.
